Talk It Up!This is the place to post anything that doesn't quite "fit in" with the rest of the site. Life lessons? News?

Hypothetically: This is a joke, you have all been fooled, Filefront gaming forums turns up on april 1st, and even n0e wasn't let in on the joke, what do you do?
Lets get some discussion in this thread and not just pointless worrying, this is talk it up, no?
Most of my recent responses have been typed up for the Rogue, or a couple of other forums I go to, and then transplanted into the relevant places on FileFront. I've been moving over here for a while now; this is just the final prod to complete the changeover.

LETS SPAM MOAR GUIZE AND GET THIS MOVED TO SPAM SHALL WE?
Well, interestingly enough, if this does prove to be a hoax, it'll be unmatched for decades to come. Oh, how I wish we would've lasted long enough to unleash the horrors on you that were being planned in the staff forums.
This is interesting. For 2 or so years now the quality of what was posted FileFront Forums had been steadily declining in my opinion, yet there always remained some of the older school and classic members there. This April I would have been a member there for 5 years, and posted the whole time. Or a majority of it at least.
The forums had a big impact on my way of thinking essentially, I learnt to use proper grammar and spelling if I wanted my argument to be taken seriously on the boards, I also accepted the manner in which to take criticism, both constructive and... not. It also is what led me to this place.
The Cool Aussie Club Part Two, lots of memories there.
Personally... if this is an April Fools joke, it is downright stupid. The network would get a rather tarnished slate if it were to be revealed as so. I remember when AzH pulled his prank on DT, claiming it was being changed into a family friendly thing. That was fucking stupid, not funny like many people turned around and said it to be. I know it is only a forum, but sometimes it can always be a home away from home. To discuss your interests with others freely and debate debatable things.
Oh, and if the network itself goes down I'll be very pissed off. I use it lots.
FileFront was my first forum, and it eventually led to the birth of TRF. For that, and many other reasons, I am grateful to GF. Like you, it has changed my way of thinking. In some respects, it's much more than a forum, just like TRF is much more than a forum- it's a home away from home.
What really pains me is the loss, not of just the forums, but of the files sites. For some gaming commnites, like ArmadaFiles, etc... FileFront was their hub. Luckily, we already have our TRF, but for some, they have to start over- which *can* be good, but usually ends up bad.

For some reason, I doubt it's a prank. The worst part would, in my opinion, be the network. As stated before, alot of modders use it as a method of storing their files, and gaining a larger fanbase. Hopefully there'll be some clarity soon.
I pretend I do stuff around here. Quite unique indeed.

Re: Filefront might be sinking soon.
I just got off the phone with Chris (Lord Wiener), who didn't even know about this. I'm still trying to get in contact with Jeff, but with no luck thusfar.
The odds of this being a joke are slimming down more and more by the second. No-one seems to have been informed, so if it is a joke - people don't think it's funny.
We'll know for sure in a week. One thing I can promise, even if FF comes back after this it will not be the same. The forums have been taken down without notice or informing of any staff members. The network sites cannot receive new content. Hell, the network sites can't even be moderated. IF FileFront tries to come back from this I estimate they'll have lost at least 25-35% of the active contributing member base, and a lot of the modders who base their operations from FF.

i agree, duane is a network admin and he told me that he believed it were the tech teams, but it could be a rumor or so... But why suddenly the halt, especially after you improved a month ago the site?
